How to Write a Follow-Up Email That Gets a Reply

When should you follow up?
The "right" timing depends on context, but most professional follow-ups fall into a few predictable patterns:
- After sending a proposal / quote: 2-3 business days
- After an interview or job application: 4-7 days (unless they gave a specific timeline)
- Supplier or delivery confirmation: 24-48 hours (or sooner if it blocks work)
- Internal / general conversation: 2-5 business days
